Crating of the vehicles
The crating for this scooters - like with all the
vehicles we ship - is designed like a tailor-made
suit. It is specifically dimensioned to fit the
shape and characteristics of its content using
materials that provide excellent protection
against impacts and specially prepared to
prevent loose movements of the scooter.
To manufacture the crating we use MDF panels of
9 mm of thickness. This material provides the
specific requirements in thickness, density,
panel size, surface texture, strength, and
rigidity. The structure of the crating is made
of eucalyptus wood bars.
Inside the box, the scooter is fixed to avoid
oscillations during the transport. We immobilize
both wheels, placing wooden barriers around each
tire screwed to the base of the box to avoid
displacements of the vehicle. The scooter is
also firmly attached to the floor by two wood
clamps specifically adapted to its shape and
carefully cushioned to avoid damaging the paint
or the floor trims (see pictures).
Before closing the box we place a
Spun-Polypropylene water repellent, breathable,
UV-resistant, abrasion-resistant cover, which
gives additional protection to the scooter
against dust and dirt.
All wooden supports undergo wood pest control
treatment and are code-marked to certify that
they comply with the international Environmental
Protection policies and regulations. These
markings are also double-verified by the
insurance company.
Each crate is 72 x 49 x 26 inches. Each crate
weighs about 320 pounds (200+ for the scooter
alone) and is really dependent on the model
selected and all the options ordered.
Once your scooter has been paid for in
full, she is crated up and loaded onto the
next available ship. (Ships leave twice a
week).

The vehicles are
shipped by consolidated sea container service to

anywhere. If your country is not listed, please
email us for a shipping quote.

Note:
• Star Vespa
ships scooter(s) on the customers' behalf and all shipping related fees must be prepaid in full. Unless the
customer is using Freight collect or has arranged his/her own
freight.
• Star Vespa cannot guarantee delivery schedule.
• Star Vespa is not responsible for shipping delays.
• Star Vespa is not responsible for damages occurred during
shipping.
Paperwork
Our shipping agent then returns the
shipping documents and customs release forms
to us. We then send them to you, via FedEx
or UPS
airmail. We also include the following:
De-registration document (with English
translation)
Bill Of
Sale
Invoice for the full amount.
Invoice for $500.
Shipping docs (Bill of Lading,
Packing List, Fumigation Certificate, Details of your local shipping agent)
Owner's
Manual.
We give you 2 receipts, for customs
reasons. You do have to pay duty.
In the US it’s as little as 5%
depending on state you live in.
In the UK it is 17.5% VAT and 5% import
duty on the Invoice amount. So if you show
the invoice for $500 you obviously pay a lot
less (around 80 in the UK).
We have done this more than 300 times,
and never once had an issue. It is also an
unwritten law of scooter restorers and
exporters to all do the same here in
Vietnam. At the end of the day, how much is
a 40 yr old scooter worth? Anything from
$100 upwards.
Your shipping agent
The shipping costs you have already paid
includes the services of your shipping
agent.
His job is to inform you when the
scooter is due to arrive and also when it
does arrive. They contact you with all
relevant information. However we strongly
recommend you dropping your shipping agent
an email or calling him, once you receive
all your documentation and his details.
Other services that your shipping agent
can offer you are customs clearance and also
home delivery.
We cannot quote on these services; you
will need to arrange with him directly.
However it is a simple process to clear
customs yourself.
The Total Estimated Fees:
In Summary:
Shipping fees ( ~USD 300) + Destination port Fees
(~USD 210)
Note:
Destination port Fees may
varied depends on the policy of the ports. Please note that we do not collect
Destination port Fees but your local ports do.
We suggest that you contact your local port for
details of all the fees applied. For the all
ocean freight shipping charges, this charge
includes all the other fees relating to the
shipping of the scooter.
The Total Estimated Fees covers all the shipping fees from Viet Nam port
to any major ports in the world. This is the
total fees that you should pay then you can pick
your scooter home in your truck. Please contact
your local port for any unexpected fee (if any).
Customs Clearance:
US : We have had
no problems in the USA as there is an exemption
for scooters over 25 years old. Thus, with an
exemption for older scooters, you are safe as
all our scooters are more than 25 years old and
this will be stated on the documents. DOT and
EPA requirements do NOT apply. Once the scooter lands in the port of entry, the
agent there affiliated with the shipping line
will contact you about payment for shipping. You
can then probably have customs clearance done in
the Port by them, or choose to do in in your own
city by yourself or by a Customers broker for
$50-100. Choose your own city and consider doing
it yourself. Most customers have done it
themselves and paid nothing. Read this report a
customer sent back: Here’s the deal. You don’t
need an agent. The only reason the shippers
recommend an agent is to save you the trip. We
continually receive reports back that Customs
has charged Customs duties totaling less than
10$.
UK : There are no problems importing, and no
duty for pre – 1971 scooters. For post 71 you
would need to pay 17% VAT & 5% customs duty.
There is 5% VAT, and you need a VAT receipt from
Customs to later register it at DVLC. A receipt
form the shipper is not accepted by DVLC. Give
Customs a call and ask what forms you need in
order to clear the scooter yourself and save any
charges there.
AUSTRALIA : We’ve been told that you need to
apply for an import permit before the shipment
arrives. Please make it with the docs copy we
send you as we hear that the shipment can be
destroyed otherwise.
You can go
here to download
for application form. Apparently, though
two-wheeled vehicles are never mentioned (all
other categories pretty much are) you are
included in that legislation.
CANADA: There are no problems importing, though
we’ve been told in Canada to make sure you get a
Form 1 from Customs to use when registering.
NORWAY : The vehicles if before 30ys have no
problems and can be imported free of duty under
classic category.
HOLLAND : For vehicles over 30 yrs old there is
no import duty and these vehicles can ply on the
roads without paying monthly road taxes.
For vehicles less than 30 but older than 25 yrs
there is no customs duty but these need to pay
tax to ply on the road and these need a permit
to run on the road.
For vehicles less than 25 yes old the there is a
45% import tax and a 6% VAT and these vehicles
need to pay monthly road tax. There is no
problem for registrations as long as the vehicle
was never imported in any country of the EU.
OTHER COUNTRIES :
You may pay some duty tax on your scooter such
as 12% for New Zealand…. Please check your
country regulation before ordering. Japan, need
to pay some VAT tax.. around 10% of invoice
value.. Shipping is real cheap though.
Collection/delivery
When the scooter has arrived and been released
by customs, your shipping agent will tell you,
and its time to collect.
For this you will need a pick up truck or
similar (Europe-a transit sized van). When you
go to the holding warehouse, bring your
paperwork and they release the scooter straight
away. They even load it into your van with a
forklift truck. Alternatively ask your shipping
agent about home delivery.
Once you get her home, you will need 2 (fairly fit!) people
to unload the crate. To uncrate her, you can use
a crowbar or pry bar. For first time starting we
send you another email with the starting
procedure. If for any reason you haven’t
received this, please email us!
Registration
We sent full set
of documents to you, and you will also have the
documents from Customs once the scooter clears.
Use these to register the scooter in your name
with your department of motor vehicles.
US: If for
any reason you have difficulties registering
your scooter in your state, you can always use a
service like
Broadway
Title or
ITS to
title it easily. They register it in an easier
state then transfer title back to you.
CANADA:
Make sure you get
a “Form 1” from Customs to use later when
registering.
UK: You need a
letter of authentication from the LCGB.
Details on their site.
Also, you need a VAT receipt from Customs to
later register it at DVLC. A receipt from the
shipper is not accepted.
If you have any questions, our professional & friendly customer
service staff will stand by to assist you.
